An entry area is, in many ways, a tone-setter for any themed park, land, or attraction, a harbinger of what guests can expect to encounter and experience throughout the rest of the setting.

Think for a moment about your favorite themed entertainment experiences, and they likely share (at least one) commonality: a memorable entry area.

Rarely do guests have the opportunity to watch an entryway—or an entire themed land, for that matter—take shape in real time, however. That’s what makes tracking the construction of the forthcoming Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom so exciting.

We at MickeyBlog have been doing so throughout the year, and to see Pueblo Esperanza take form with such swiftness has been thrilling. Construction is moving at what seems to be a rapid pace, with appreciable progress made each time we visit the park.

We noticed additional development on the Tropical Americas entry archway on our most recent trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. With that, let’s take a look at the current state of the land!

We first noticed the archway’s steel framework in August, with paneling installed shortly thereafter.

The structure was then wrapped in mesh and engulfed by scaffolding, suggesting additional theming was imminent.

That theming has now arrived, as we spotted crews applying stucco to the archway on Friday morning.

A charcoal stucco layer has been applied across the entire structure, giving it a rough, timeworn texture.

The archway will eventually look as though it’s succumbing to the forces of nature, an aesthetic motif constant across Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Peeling red paint will reveal an aged base structure, with moss and other overgrown flora giving it an unkempt, naturalistic look.

Included below is concept art of the Tropical Americas archway’s ultimate appearance.

We’re still a ways away from the complete execution of the vision, but you can see crews are well on their way.

Rockwork around Casa Madrigal also continues to take shape at an impressive rate.

Roofing has also been installed atop El Carrusel de los Animalitos in recent weeks.

More About the Land

Tropical Americas will transport guests to Pueblo Esperanza, a pan-Central and South American village representative of the region’s architectural and cultural touchstones.

The land’s marquee attraction will be Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto. An all-ages experience that will not have a height requirement, the attraction will bring guests into Casa Madrigal on the day Antonio receives his gift to communicate with animals.

Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent will be the setting’s other major offering. The ride will place guests alongside the famed archeologist as he ventures into the depths of an abandoned Maya temple.

It’s there that they’ll encounter several monstrous creatures, including the Tsukán, the serpent guardian of the underground. Why did it have to be snakes?!

The aforementioned El Carrusel de los Animalitos will be a wooden carousel featuring animals from across Disney’s expansive IP catalogue. The land will also feature a large quick-service restaurant.

Disney recently removed mention of a 2027 opening from the land’s official description on the Walt Disney World website. Despite this, Tropical Americas is still expected to open next year.
