Planning a Disney World vacation in 2027? Here’s what will be open, what you’ll miss, and where you should expect to see construction walls.

If you’re planning a Disney World vacation in 2027, you need to take a closer look at what’s happening around the parks before you book your trip. There’s a lot of change coming, from an entirely new land at Animal Kingdom to a new resort on Bay Lake—and yes, there will be plenty of construction walls along the way.

What’s Opening at Disney World in 2027

Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom is getting a major makeover in 2027 when the brand-new Tropical Americas land opens in the former DinoLand U.S.A. area.
The new 11-acre land will transport guests to a lush setting inspired by the tropical regions of Central and South America. It will feature an Indiana Jones attraction set inside an ancient Maya temple, a family-friendly Encanto attraction starring Antonio and his animal friends, and El Carrusel de los Animalitos, a carousel featuring animals from Disney stories.

There will also be a new hacienda-style quick-service restaurant, Pueblo Esperanza, and plenty of details designed to make the land feel like a lived-in community rather than a collection of attractions.

Disney currently lists Tropical Americas as opening in 2027, though it’s expected that the land will open in phases versus when it’s fully complete.

Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Get ready to enter the monster world—although you’ll have to wait a little longer for the headline attraction.

Parts of Monstropolis are scheduled to open at Hollywood Studios in 2027, bringing guests into the city from Monsters, Inc. for the first time. The area will include a new theater show called Welcome to Monstropolis, where humans are invited to learn more about monster life.

You’ll also be able to explore the city streets, visit Harryhausen’s restaurant and grab a slice at Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza. Disney Legend Randy Newman has even written a new song, “Welcome to Monstropolis,” specifically for the land.

The catch? The land’s signature door coaster will still be under construction when these portions open, so like Tropical Americas, we can expect something of a phased opening.

Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is expected to reopen in 2027 following an extensive update. The attraction will feature new scenes covering the 1960s, 1980s, New Millennium and Possible Future, allowing the classic attraction to catch up with a few decades of technological progress.

Disney has described the updated show as a way to continue the attraction’s story while maintaining its optimistic look at how technology changes our lives.

Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge

Disney World is also getting a brand-new place to sleep. Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge is scheduled to open July 1, 2027. The nature-inspired resort, which sits along the shores of Bay Lake, will have 967 rooms—including resort studios, villas and new one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses.

The resort will also bring new restaurants and lounges, recreation, and views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks from select locations. If you’re looking for a new Disney resort to try in 2027, this one will be hard to miss.

What’s Closing at Disney World in 2027

Technically, we don’t yet have word on any official closures at Disney World in 2027. However, we do know that some attractions, lands, and experiences will be limited throughout the year.

Walt Disney World Railroad

The Walt Disney World Railroad isn’t exactly closing in 2027, but it won’t be running its traditional route while construction continues at Magic Kingdom.

The train currently operates as a shuttle between Main Street, U.S.A., and Fantasyland, skipping the Frontierland station. Disney says it expects the railroad to return to normal operations once the Magic Kingdom expansion is complete.

So if you’re picturing yourself taking the train around the entire park during your 2027 vacation, keep this one in mind. You can still ride it—you just won’t be getting the full grand-circle tour.

Disney Skyliner

If you’re staying at a resort served by the Disney Skyliner, there’s one short closure to know about: the Skyliner will be closed for refurbishment January 24–30, 2027.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., offers Disney and Pixar themed rooms from “Finding Nemo,” “Cars,” “The Little Mermaid” and “The Lion King.” The resort also has themed pools and access to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios via Disney Skyliner.(Harrison Cooney, Photographer)

Don’t panic if your vacation falls during those dates. Disney says complimentary bus transportation will be available while the gondolas are out of commission.

For everyone else, the Skyliner should continue operating normally throughout the year.

Spaceship Earth at EPCOT

Spaceship Earth is getting ready for a pretty significant change.

Disney announced that the classic attraction will be reimagined with a broader focus on human connection, expanding its current story of human communication into the internet age and beyond.

The update is planned, but Disney has not yet provided a firm 2027 closure and reopening schedule. So if Spaceship Earth is a must-do for your family, keep an eye on Disney’s official calendar as your trip gets closer.

Journey Into Imagination with Figment

Figment fans have a reason to pay attention to EPCOT in 2027, too.

Disney has announced that Dreamfinder is returning to the Imagination! Pavilion, reuniting with Figment for a new journey into imagination. The announcement doesn’t yet provide a firm timeline for when the attraction will close, how long the refurbishment will last, or exactly when the updated experience will reopen.

In other words, don’t assume the attraction will be unavailable for your entire 2027 trip—but don’t assume the current version will be there, either. Disney has more details to reveal.

What’s Under Construction at Disney World in 2027

Piston Peak National Park at Magic Kingdom

If you visit Magic Kingdom in 2027, you’re going to see a lot of construction in the area.

The former Rivers of America area is being transformed into Piston Peak National Park, a massive new Cars-themed area inspired by America’s national parks. The land will feature two attractions: Cars Ridge Run Rally, an off-road racing adventure, and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along, a family-friendly demolition derby hosted by the Cars 3 character. The area will also feature trails, a visitor lodge, Ranger HQ and a dramatic wilderness setting complete with mountains, waterfalls and geysers.

Construction is already underway, and Disney describes Piston Peak as part of the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history.

Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Yes, Tropical Americas is both opening and under construction in 2027.

That’s because the land is expected to welcome guests sometime during the year while work wraps up around the project. The construction will transform the former DinoLand area into a completely new environment, with the Indiana Jones and Encanto attractions, carousel, dining and new landscaping.

If you’re visiting Animal Kingdom before the land’s opening, expect a very different experience from someone visiting later in the year.

Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios will have a similar situation to Animal Kingdom.

Parts of Monstropolis are scheduled to open in 2027, but the Monsters, Inc. door coaster will still be under construction. Disney says the attraction will be the first suspended coaster in a Disney park, recreating the iconic door-vault sequence from the movie.

So don’t book a 2027 trip expecting to ride the new Monsters, Inc. coaster. You’ll be able to explore the surrounding land and experience some of its new entertainment and dining, but the biggest attraction won’t be ready yet.

Villains Land at Magic Kingdom

And then there’s the project that may have Disney fans peeking through the construction walls every chance they get: Villains Land.

Disney has confirmed that the new land will feature two major attractions, including a Maleficent-themed coaster and a dark ride hosted by the Magic Mirror. It will also include dining and shopping, all wrapped in a darker, more mysterious take on the classic Magic Kingdom fairytale aesthetic.

Construction is underway beyond Big Thunder Mountain, but Villains Land is not a 2027 destination you should expect to visit. For now, you’ll have to settle for watching the land take shape—and waiting for Disney to reveal exactly when those villains will finally make their debut.
